Identify priorities & declutter your mind

Know your goals. Consider what is that you want from work & your personal life and eliminate the things that are not relevant to achieve them. Are you looking to get a promotion and at the same time help your kid attain better grades in Mathematics ? Then rate them as your top priorities and work out solutions to make it happen.

Here's the tip:

  1. Free up your time and reflect on your life.
  2. Open a spreadsheet and note down everything that pops up in your mind. It can be the commitments you can't ignore, proud achievements, failures you faced, what you enjoy doing, expectations, future goals, hurdles, resentment, worries etc. Pour out everything until you feel you have emptied your mind.
  3. Organise all related topics into common categories. Surprisingly you will notice that you can easily put them under 5-6 main categories and other concerns are only a subsets of these.
  4. They are the targets we need to aim at, hence highlight it and make it bold.

It is a good practice to jot down every small thought that crosses your mind. It will definitely reduce time and frequency as you move on.

This is a very effective tool to free up your cluttered mind.

PS : It may be a good idea to encrypt your spreadsheet if you don't want others to view them.
